Micheal O Suilleabhain

Home > Music at Amherst Parallels Series 2014 > Micheal O Suilleabhain

Event Information

Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin is one of Ireland’s best-known musicians. He has released over ten CDs of his own compositions and arrangements performed by the Irish Chamber Orchestra under his direction. As a pianist, he is widely acknowledged as having originated a unique Irish piano style out of an Irish traditional base. Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin is Professor of Music at the University of Limerick where he founded the Irish World Music Centre.

"Ó Súilleabháin is one of those rarities, a musician who grasps absolutely both the classical and traditional idioms, and his take seems to be that, not only can they co-exist, they should burst forth together in something that goes beyond mere fusion."
